Dental

Blue Shield offers competitively priced dental coverage with comprehensive benefits for a variety of plan designs and options, with or without a Blue Shield medical plan.

Dental HMO Plans
Blue Shield dental HMO plans give employees access to cost-effective dental care through the network dental provider of their choice. Within three dental HMO plan families, clients can choose between Basic, Plus or Deluxe plans.

Dental PPO Plans
PPO Smile plans offer a range of affordable dental plans providing employees the option to choose any dental provider they want, or save money by using a network provider. Plan choices offer richer benefit plans such as, Smile Spectrum Premier Plus and Smile Spectrum Premier Plans or leaner benefit plans which include Smile Basic and Smile Basic Voluntary plan.

In-Network Only (INO) Dental Plans
A Smile In-Network Only (INO) dental plan offers employees and their families a smart cost-cutting approach to save on dental coverage. Members can access covered services from any provider in the INO network. There is no coverage for services received outside of this network.

Network Access:  Over 21,000 PPO/INO providers and 9,000 HMO providers in California and more than 144,000 dental providers nationwide.

Vision

Blue Shield offers a variety of vision plans with or without a medical plan, providing early detection of eye disease or vision correction for employees, as well as cost management for employers.

Network Access: More than 5,900 ophthalmologists, optometrists, and opticians in California and 18,000 providers nationwide.

Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance

Blue Shield of California Life & Health Insurance Company (Blue Shield Life) offers a straightforward life insurance plan option that can meet your clients’ and their employees’ specific needs. Life insurance is available with or without a Blue Shield health plan.

 Tax-saving options
A wide variety of personal savings accounts that work with health plans are available in the marketplace. From flexible spending accounts (FSAs) to the consumer-directed health reimbursement arrangements (HRAs) and health savings accounts (HSAs), personal savings accounts can help employers and members save.

Premium Only Plans (POP) an easy, convenient way to increase employee take-home pay and reduce company payroll taxes. A company’s taxable payroll can be reduced by the amount employees contribute to certain employer-sponsored group benefit plans, which can lower payroll-related taxes.

Flexible Spending Account (FSA) can be a tax-free way for employees to save for qualified medical expenses during a single plan year. All Blue Shield health plans can be used with an FSA arrangement.

Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) also called fixed contribution plans, personal care accounts or healthcare account plans. They can help reduce the cost of healthcare for an employer. In addition, money left at the end of the year can be rolled over to future years depending on the plan. All Blue Shield health plans can be paired with an HRA arrangement.

Health Savings Account (HSA) is an account-based saving option that can allow individuals to pay for qualified medical expenses. This consumer-directed approach to health care is available only in conjunction with an HSA-eligible high-deductible health plan. Pre-tax funds can be deducted from employee paychecks, employees can make lump sum contributions and employers may make contributions individually or through payroll deduction. All Shield Spectrum PPO Savings Plus plans are HSA- eligible high- deductible health plans.
