Covered California for Small Business –
New Blue Shield Plans

Starting July 1, Covered California for Small Business (CCSB) is offering new Blue Shield plans, providing more options for enrollees. These plans include the Access+ HMO Network with Platinum, Gold, and Silver metal tier options, as well as the Bronze Trio HMO 7000/70. The two most popular Blue Shield High Deductible Health Plans (HDHP), Silver Full PPO Savings 2300/25% and Bronze Full PPO Savings 7000 plans, are also now available.

All of these plans offer benefits such as Wellvolution, Teladoc Mental Health, Nurse Help 24/7, LifeReferrals 24/7, and the Blue Card program for when members are outside of California.

Blue Shield – Trio HMO and Tandem PPO Cost-Reducing Options and Bonus

To help employers who may be experiencing financial difficulties due to COVID-19, Blue Shield is offering the option of a one-time off-anniversary plan downgrade through September 30, 2020. Buy-down plans may be selected from within the current plan type: PPO to PPO or HMO to HMO.

Consider switching your groups to Blue Shield’s lower cost Trio HMO and Tandem PPO plans without reducing their employees’ coverage.

With high-value coverage and even more features than Blue Shield’s full network plans – Trio and Tandem plans come with noticeably lower premiums. While the networks are somewhat smaller, some employees may already be seeing doctors in the Trio and Tandem networks and may be able to keep their doctors and have lower out-of-pocket costs.

CCSB Grace Period and Premium Deferral Program

In April, Covered California for Small Business (CCSB) launched a new program to help their small business customers continue to provide insurance to their employees during the COVID-19 pandemic. The grace period for premium payment was extended to 60 days for April and May premium invoices.

In addition, a Premium Deferral Program was introduced for customers who had not fully paid their April or May premium invoices.

CCSB has now provided a Grace Period and Premium Deferral Program FAQ that answers the most common questions that employers have about the program.

UnitedHealthcare Broker Renewal Packets Go Paperless

As a part of UnitedHealthcare’s Go Green initiative and due to the number of brokers now working from home, UnitedHealthcare will no longer send hard copy renewal packets to brokers starting with September 1, 2020 renewals. Employer groups will continue to receive hard copies of their renewal packets. Brokers will continue to have access to digital copies of renewal packets on United eServices.
