Michael joined Claremont in 1993 as one of our founding employees and has since guided the company – and helped our customers grow and thrive – through many rounds of industry change during the last 30 years.

Blue Shield of California – New Virtual Blue Plans

Effective January 2023, Blue Shield of California is launching two new Virtual Blue plans, available in both the Small Group and Large Group portfolios.

The new Virtual Blue plans give members the choice of virtual or in-person care. Virtual care includes $0 unlimited visits to primary care, behavioral health and specialty care through a new partnership with AccoladeCare. In-person care is available through the Tandem PPO network in California and via BlueCard when outside of the state.

Claremont Welcomes Suzie Wirths

We are excited to welcome Suzie Wirths as the newest addition to the Service Team. As a Broker Service Representative, Suzie will assist clients in a variety of areas such as eligibility, enrollment support, quoting, carrier knowledge, Ease and more.

Suzie has over six years of employee benefits experience and has worked with Third Party Administrators as well as brokerage firms. “After her first interview, I knew Suzie should be a part of our team,” says Laura Hogsed, Service Manager. “Her experience and knowledge are only part of what Suzie brings to the table. She strives to provide the best possible experience to everyone that she interacts with and she is eager to make an impactful contribution to our customers. Our clients are already saying how much they enjoy working with her.”

Debra Scritchfield Retires

As of January 20th, Debra Scritchfield will be retiring from Claremont.

Debra started with Claremont in December 2013. She joined during a time of change, as ACA requirements were phasing in and Covered California for Small Business (CCSB) was in its infancy. Debra worked hard with the team to initially build the relationship with CCSB and help work through some of the initial growing pains. As time passed, she became one of our internal CCSB experts, helping countless clients navigate their way through the changing world of health insurance. Over the years, Debra has assisted clients with everything from processing new applications, making changes throughout the policy year, quoting, answering benefits questions, and much more.

“Debra will definitely be missed by all of us” says Laura Hogsed, Service Manager. “Not just for her knowledge and contributions as a co-worker, but as a friend. Debra has built strong bonds with all of us both in and outside of the office. While we hate to see her go, we wish her the best in everything that her future has in store for her.”

Blue Shield of California has agreed to a multiyear provider contract negotiation with Choice Medical Group Apple Valley and Choice Medical Group Barstow in San Bernardino County.

Members who received contract termination letters will now receive “good news” letters with information on the successful negotiation.

Rady Children’s Health Network and Hospital Successful Contract Negotiation

Blue Shield of California and Blue Shield of California Promise Health have reached contract agreements with Rady Children’s Health Network (RCHN) and Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego County.

Members who received contract termination letters regarding Rady Children’s Health Network (RCHN) will now receive “good news” letters with information on the successful negotiation.
