 BENEFITS ADMIN CORNER

Your goal is winning new clients and keeping them. Part of keeping them is ensuring their benefits are administered smoothly. In this occasional series, we will review issues we hope will help with your groups’ benefits administration.

How Covered California for Small Business (CCSB)
Administers Group Service Agreements

As you know, when a carrier group health plan is installed, the group enters into a contract for coverage with the carrier. This contract is typically referred to as the group contract but it can be called the group health plan contract, group service contract or group service agreement.

So, how do these group contracts work with the CCSB exchange when more than one carrier is providing coverage to the group?

CCSB does not issue group contracts. Rather, shortly after the group is installed, each carrier with enrollment will send a Group Service Agreement to the group. On receipt, the group should sign the Group Service Agreement and return it to the carrier per the carrier instructions, and retain a copy in their files.

 WE VALUE YOUR FEEDBACK

At Claremont, we always look forward to hearing from you. Whatever the topic, send us an email anytime. This week, we'd appreciate your feedback on carrier commission payments.

Carrier Commission Payments

We’ve heard that brokers sometimes find it difficult to audit their commission statements from carriers. These statements come in all shapes and sizes, from paper printouts to electronic spreadsheets and from well-organized and easy-to-read, to challenging to decipher.

We regularly audit our statements and sometimes find discrepancies, but the process is challenging and time-consuming. Do you audit your statements to confirm that you are being paid accurately? Is the process easy or difficult? Do you use a third-party service to help?

Email us and let us know. We’d like to gauge how many of you find this part of your business challenging. We are keeping our eye on a new company whose mission is to help brokers easily audit their statements. We’d like to know how much interest there would be in such a service.
