Association Health Plans Off-Limits for Certain

On September 22, 2018, Governor Jerry Brown signed into law SB 1375 a bill that prevents certain business owners and their spouses from purchasing coverage in the group market. This bill was written because of concerns that the Trump administration’s newly-liberalized rules related to Association Health Plans (AHP’s) could lead to a migration of “healthy” subscribers into AHP’s and away from Covered California, causing a degradation in the risk pool of the state’s individual exchange. Learn more.
