California Individual Health Care Mandate

Effective January 1, 2020, the California Minimum Essential Coverage Individual Mandate, included in SB 78 which passed earlier this year, largely mirrors the provisions of the old federal mandate. It requires California residents to maintain minimum essential coverage for themselves and their dependents, or pay a state tax penalty.

Open Enrollment Updates

The process for employers who offer Principal coverage will be evolving in the new year. Beginning January 1, 2020, Principal's open enrollment flexibility will impact dental, managed care vision (VSP), accident coverage, and voluntary term life coverage. Get the details and check out Principal's Q4 promotions.

Blue Shield’s Trio HMO Adds
Riverside Physician Network

Riverside Physician Network (RPN) was added to Blue Shield’s growing list of Trio providers in the Inland Empire, effective October 1, 2019. This addition impacts all Trio plans across commercial lines of business including Core, Premier, Small Business and Individual and Family Plans.

RPN was recently acquired by PrimeCare Riverside. Beginning January 1, 2020, RPN will be listed as PrimeCare Riverside on Blue Shield systems and all RPN doctors will be shown under PrimeCare Riverside on FaD and the Trio census tool search results.

UnitedHealthcare Offers New Medicare Advantage Plan Featuring Canopy Health Care Providers

Effective January 1, 2020 (pending regulatory approval), the new UnitedHealthcare® Canopy Health Medicare Advantage plan will be available to more than 630,000 Medicare beneficiaries in Contra Costa, Alameda, and San Francisco counties.

The new plan will provide more choice and flexibility, and offer access to a large, comprehensive, high-quality network of care providers in the Bay Area who are affiliated with Canopy Health. Groups may enroll during Medicare Annual Enrollment from October 15 to December 7, 2019. Learn more.
