Both State and Federal laws require health plans to provide treatment for mental health and substance use disorder conditions. The Department of Managed Health Care refers to treatment and services provided to treat mental health and substance use conditions as behavioral health care.

This presentation will focus on:

  •  The solution, not the problem.
  • Training on how to help, not simply data and information about mental health coverage and treatment problems.

DeDe will touch on the problems a bit but will equip agents and account managers to know what to:

  • Say, how to say it, and what not to say.
  • Do, how to do it, and what not to do.

Advocacy in mental health can be intimidating without an understanding of what:

  • The laws require.
  • The health care delivery system entails and looks like.
  • The consumer experience is.
  • Can advocacy influence and improve.

Agents that complete this course will have reviewed the Mental Health Parity legal environment and coverage requirements, become familiar with mental health levels of care, learned about how to access care, what the barriers to insurance funding for care are, and how to navigate authorizations and appeals.

Attendees will go away with confidence and competency to better equip themselves to advise and help.
