Blue Shield - New Virtual Blue Plans

The Virtual Blue plans give members (small and large groups) the choice of virtual or in-person care. Virtual care includes $0 unlimited visits to primary care, behavioral health and specialty care through a new partnership with AccoladeCare. In-person care is available through the Tandem PPO network in California and via BlueCard when outside of the state.

The two Virtual Blue small group plans available in PRISM are the Virtual Blue Gold Tandem PPO 1500/45 and Virtual Blue Bronze Tandem PPO 7500/75. These can be identified by ‘Virtual Blue’ in the plan name.

When using the PRISM filter options for Narrow or Broad networks, select ‘All’ networks instead of ‘Broad’ only networks to generate plans for Blue Shield’s Virtual Blue, Trio HMO, and Tandem PPO plans.

Cross-Border Health Coverage

The basic understandings from this CE Course will enhance producers’ technical knowledge for better advising employer clients on the advantages and disadvantages of cross-border product offerings. Given the significant cost savings, employer interest and demand for Cross-Border health coverage will undoubtedly continue to grow.

This course is a very relevant insurance topic for brokers in San Diego and Imperial County. Over 50,000 workers legally cross the US-Mexican border to work in California daily. Many large employers throughout California have satellite offices in the southern part of the State with workers who commute across the border to work. Most of these workers prefer to receive their employer-sponsored health benefits in Mexico. Additionally, many consumers in San Diego and Imperial County prefer to access their health care benefits in Mexico for a variety of reasons. Until recently, there were few options available for employers to offer group sponsored health plans that extended into Mexico. The basic understandings from this CE Course will enhance producers’ technical knowledge for better advising employer clients on the advantages and disadvantages of cross-border product offerings.  Given the significant cost savings, employer interest and demand for Cross-Border health coverage will undoubtedly continue to grow.
