As employers receive their carrier renewal statements, and review their 2016 health benefit packages, they’ll notice only ACA-compliant plans will be offered. The new benefits, cost-sharing, and rating methodology of ACA-compliant plans are expected to substantially impact premiums, in excess of the annual premium changes offered to employers over the past 20 years.
Most carrier renewal statements will include some level of comparison between current and renewal premiums, but they will not explain where or how the changes will affect premiums. Employers will therefore be approaching brokers for explanations about the changes and premium adjustments.
