As an early adopter of a work-from-home model, Twitter was forced to accelerate that model and as a result, is now permitting employees to continue to work from home permanently. Facebook is also making a permanent shift towards a more remote workforce and it anticipates that about 50% of its workforce will work remotely within the next five to 10 years. In fact, one in five employees want to permanently work from home, according to a CNBC survey.

Nobody knows how prevalent remote work will become. But in the short term, as businesses reopen, employers will need to reexamine their remote work policies and practices.
