Blue Shield - New Virtual Blue Plans

The Virtual Blue plans give members (small and large groups) the choice of virtual or in-person care. Virtual care includes $0 unlimited visits to primary care, behavioral health and specialty care through a new partnership with AccoladeCare. In-person care is available through the Tandem PPO network in California and via BlueCard when outside of the state.

The two Virtual Blue small group plans available in PRISM are the Virtual Blue Gold Tandem PPO 1500/45 and Virtual Blue Bronze Tandem PPO 7500/75. These can be identified by ‘Virtual Blue’ in the plan name.

When using the PRISM filter options for Narrow or Broad networks, select ‘All’ networks instead of ‘Broad’ only networks to generate plans for Blue Shield’s Virtual Blue, Trio HMO, and Tandem PPO plans.

Small Group Special Enrollment Period (SEP) extended through September 30, 2020. Plan selection downgrades allowed through September 30, 2020.

Teladoc $0 Cost-Sharing Benefit Extended Through September 30, 2020
Teladoc services with no cost-sharing include both health and behavioral health. Also available to members who do not have Teladoc as a plan benefit.

Extended New Business Submission Deadlines
The new group submission deadline has been extended for April, May, June, and July effective dates. Groups must be submitted by the last business day of the group effective month.

Premium Payment Plan Program

COVID-19 Testing and Treatment
Blue Shield is extending cost sharing waivers (co-payments, coinsurance, and deductibles) through September 30, 2020, for COVID-19 testing and treatment.

  • Dental Premium Credit
    Fully-insured dental groups (both contributory and voluntary) will receive a 10% premium credit on their June through October 2020 invoices.
  • PPE Payments to In-Network Providers
    A $7 payment for PPE will be paid to in-network providers with each member dentist visit from June 1 through December 31, 2020. This payment will help offset the additional expenses for dental offices to maintain up-to-date infection control procedures and to reduce the risk of exposure to members. Additionally, this payment may help decrease member out-of-pocket costs.
