Covered California for Small Business –
New Blue Shield Plans

Starting July 1, Covered California for Small Business (CCSB) is offering new Blue Shield plans, providing more options for enrollees. These plans include the Access+ HMO Network with Platinum, Gold, and Silver metal tier options, as well as the Bronze Trio HMO 7000/70. The two most popular Blue Shield High Deductible Health Plans (HDHP), Silver Full PPO Savings 2300/25% and Bronze Full PPO Savings 7000 plans, are also now available.

All of these plans offer benefits such as Wellvolution, Teladoc Mental Health, Nurse Help 24/7, LifeReferrals 24/7, and the Blue Card program for when members are outside of California.

Cards can be connected to Digital Wallets such as Apple Pay®, Google Pay®, and Samsung Pay® for a contactless payment experience.

Flexible Spending Account (FSA)

An FSA allows employees to contribute tax-free dollars to accounts to pay for health care and dependent care expenses. A Medical FSA is an employee-funded account used to pay for eligible medical expenses. The Rolling Medical FSA and Limited Medical FSA are great options to ensure compatibility with other benefit options. A Dependent Care FSA is a great option to allow employees to save up to 40% on the cost of childcare.

BRI will work with employers to help them understand how the Beniversal FSA fits into their overall benefits strategy and maximize the overall impact. If your clients have an existing FSA program, they will work with them to ensure clear communication and minimum interruption to service.

Health Savings Account (HSA)

An HSA is an individually owned account that can be employer and employee-funded. Funds carry over from year to year and earn interest. HSAs are coupled with an HSA-compatible health plan to provide one of the most cost-effective and comprehensive benefit offerings that exist.

BRI’s experienced team will provide guidance through implementation. They’ll look at how the HSA fits into your clients’ entire benefits package and provide recommendations for transition strategies and plan changes that maximize HSA compatibility.

Health Reimbursement Account (HRA)

An HRA is an employer-funded account that provides flexible plan design options for employers while providing employees with funds to assist with out-of-pocket medical expenses. HRAs provide variety that can complement your clients’ total healthcare benefits strategy, including compatibility with other pre-tax benefits and maximizing savings for employers and employees. They must generally be combined with a comprehensive health plan.

Commuter Benefit Plan

A Commuter Benefit Plan allows participants to conveniently pay for qualified mass transit and parking expenses with tax-free dollars. The separate accounts – one for Mass Transit and one for Parking – meet the needs of commuting employees, regardless of how they choose to get to work.

Participants can use the Beniversal card at all qualified mass transit and parking vendors across the country that accept Debit Mastercard. The Beniversal card can be used to pay merchants directly, load funds to an existing transit or parking account, enroll in an auto-reload program, and to make an online transit or parking purchase.

Specialty Accounts

A Specialty Account allows employers to assist employees in paying for specific expenses. Your clients choose what the plan can reimburse and set limits regarding eligibility, funding, and maximum spend per plan participant. They can select from a variety of predefined eligible expense categories or work with the BRI assigned representative to design a program that best meets their needs.
