The latest MetLife study highlights the importance of maintaining a caring and supportive work environment during times of macroeconomic uncertainty, geopolitical conflicts, and election year tensions. Offering a robust benefits package and a welcoming culture can establish a foundation for mutually beneficial employment relationships, providing stability and helping employees prepare for unexpected events and challenging times.
Organizations that prioritize employee care are better positioned to achieve their talent management objectives, even in turbulent times. Investing in such initiatives not only supports financially stressed employees but also enhances productivity and retention, positively impacting the bottom line. The study demonstrates that the benefits of investing in employee well-being extend to both the workforce and the organization, emphasizing that the cost of neglecting employee care could be far greater than the investment in it.
MetLife’s 2024 U.S. Employee Benefit Trends Study, Maximizing Employee Care: Opportunities for Enhancing Care Delivery Across the Employee Experience, not only tracks shifts in employee expectations and workplace dynamics but also offers insights into how a well-structured employee care strategy can significantly enhance both employee well-being and organizational outcomes. In the ever-evolving landscape of employee benefits, the demand for disability insurance (DI) has surged 9% year-over-year, making it the fasted-growing benefit. In fact, 60% of employees now consider disability insurance a “must-have” benefit, second only to medical insurance.
Now more than ever, inclusive benefits packages are essential. It’s worth noting that employees from historically marginalized backgrounds, such as women, Black and Hispanic employees, and LGBTQIA+ community members, are more likely to consider DI indispensable. And employees with DI are 26% more likely to view their benefits package as inclusive.
Despite this increased demand, there remains a significant gap between interest and access. Currently, only 35% of employees have access to DI, down from 58% in 2019. What’s more, less than 3 in 5 employees are satisfied with their benefits that allow them to take time away from work, which hinders their ability to balance their professional and personal lives.
This “must-have” benefits gap directly impacts talent management. Employees with access to DI report greater benefits satisfaction, improved financial and mental health, and enhanced loyalty, compared to employees without access to DI.
In today’s competitive job market, a healthy work-life balance is critical and benefits that enable employees to take time away from work have never been more essential. Offering these benefits not only boosts recruitment, retention, engagement, and loyalty but also gives your clients a competitive advantage. Learn more.
Don’t miss this opportunity to offer valuable DI coverage and help your clients demonstrate their commitment to the well-being of their employees, thereby fostering a more loyal and productive workforce.

MetLife has teamed up with Snoopy, the iconic Peanuts character, to market its pet insurance through employee benefits programs. Remarkably, MetLife had a 30+ year relationship with Snoopy from 1985 until 2017 – when they separated from their life and annuity business.
Despite the rising number of pet owners in the US, only a small percentage (less than 3%) of pets are currently insured. MetLife aims to change this by educating pet parents about the benefits of pet protection for safeguarding personal finances and improving their pet’s well-being.
MetLife’s research indicates that in 2022, 84% of pet parents experienced higher pet care costs, and 50% of them worry that the escalating costs will make it difficult for them to continue being a pet parent. In addition to rising prices for routine care and pet necessities, pet parents may also have to deal with exorbitant bills they may not be able to afford for emergency vet visits, surgeries, or extended hospital stays.
According to MetLife’s 20th Annual Employee Benefit Trends Study (EBTS), 65% of employees with pets are currently interested in their employer offering pet insurance.
As the leading pet health insurance provider in the workplace, MetLife’s affordable, extensive coverage includes:
With Snoopy’s help, MetLife hopes to raise awareness about pet insurance and its benefits – which means more pets receive the care they need, and pet owners can remain worry-free. Learn more.

The latest MetLife study has revealed that in times of talent shortages and economic uncertainty, employee care has emerged as a powerful force.
As a benefits advisor, it’s important to recognize that companies are currently adapting to the new dynamics in employment relationships and assessing the impact of an extended slowdown on their workforce needs. Despite the changes in recent years, the good news is that employee benefits continue to play a vital role in the value proposition organizations offer their workers.
Businesses that prioritize employee care will be best positioned to achieve their talent management goals, even in challenging economic conditions. Investing in employee care can not only provide support to financially stressed workers, but can also boost productivity and retention, ultimately benefiting the bottom line. In short, there are clear benefits for both employees and organizations. Thus, it’s not a question of whether organizations can afford to invest in employee care, but rather whether they can afford not to.
MetLife’s 21st Annual U.S. Employee Benefit Trends Study 2023, The Advantages of Employee Care: Creating Human-Centric Employee Experiences and Work Environments, provides actionable insights to help you recommend a benefits mix for employers that can help them demonstrate care for their employees to drive higher job satisfaction, worker loyalty, engagement, and productivity.
